Pawpaw | Asimina triloba
Produces large, tropical-tasting fruits. Prefers moist, well-drained soils. Wonderful understory tree that attracts a wide range of wildlife from butterflies to black bears. Was once plentiful in the hardwood forests throught much of Eastern North America but habitat loss has made this fantastic tree all but impossible to find. It has been regaining popularity in recent years due to its ornamental value, benefits to wildlife, and fantastic fruit. Larval host to Zebra Swallowtail butterfly.
