New Jersey Tea | Ceanothus americanus
New Jersey tea is a compact, deciduous shrub native to eastern North America. It is known for being hardy, low-maintenance, and having great ecological value. Deep-green, toothed leaves and airy clusters of tiny white flowers in late spring attract bees and butterflies, followed by distinctive three-lobed seed capsules eaten by songbirds.
Adapted to dry, well-drained soils and sunny sites, it tolerates rocky slopes and prairie edges and fixes nitrogen through a symbiotic relationship with the soil bacteria Frankia.
