Kentucky Coffee Tree | Gymnocladus dioicus
Kentucky Coffee Tree has large, compound leaves and produces seed pods that can be roasted and used as a coffee substitute. It tolerates urban conditions well (including heat, cold, drought, salt, and air pollution) and will tend to stay shorter with a rounder canopy when grown in open conditions with plenty of light. Can handle a wide range of soil conditions. It’s also a nitrogen fixer and will add fertility to the soil.
