Wagener Apple Tree
Medium to larger, irregularly shaped, distinctly five-sided, flattened fruit with slight ribbing. Thin, glossy, smooth skin is striped and mottled pale red over very light yellow. Fine-grained, crisp, juicy, tender flesh. Subacid, aromatic, sprightly flavor. Resembles Northern Spy and improves after frost. Very juicy and makes excellent cider. Cooks down to a very fine sauce. Exceptionally long storage life. Small tree bears early. Prolific, hardy, moderately biennial. Ripens mid-late October. Hangs long on the tree. Possible parent of Northern Spy. Seedling discovered in New York 1791.
