Beaked Hazelnut | Corylus cornuta

$35.00

Produces edible nuts with a beak-like husk. Prefers moist, well-drained soils but will thrive in dry locations as well. This Hazelnut will grow larger, and if you so choose, can take on a tree form, with exceptional cases can reach 45 feet in height! The nut is of a slightly higher quality than the American type but with a harder shell. Similar Fall Color to that of American, which is to say it's quite stunning. Many different animal species rely on this plant for winter forage including snoeshoe hares, northern bobwhite, and American woodcock. In our experience beating the critters to the nut is a fool's errand.
