Beach Plum | Prunus maritima

$18.00

The beach plum is endangered due to development along the coasts, although historically it was abundant here in Maine. It prefers sandy, well-drained soils. Smells of a heavenly perfume when it flowers profusely in the early spring. Excellent for pollinators and wildlife, it's salt tolerant and produces edible fruit that make a renowned jam. We also love eating these fresh. They're perfect little bite-sized snacking plums, mildly sweet (blueberry-ish) and kind of addicting. Fortunately, they're very healthy, packed with antioxidants. This plant is easy to fit into a landscape, as it doesn't get very tall - about 4ft. Makes a perfect low-maintenance hedge. Highly recommended!!
